About Us
The Cosmetic, Toiletry & Fragrance Association of South Africa (CTFA) was formed in 1994 when it became evident that no matter how strong individual companies in the cosmetic and personal care sector were, they needed a united voice if they were to achieve their business and marketing goals.
Since inception, the purpose of CTFA has been to guide Members on the South African regulatory framework and best practice, and to ensure that the cosmetic and personal care industry flourishes. CTFA works with the private sector, the South African Bureau of Standards, National Department of Health, Department of Trade, Industry and Competition and international accredited bodies to ensure international alignment and a responsible industry in South Africa.
CTFA is regarded by government, South Africans and international stakeholders alike as the credible voice committed to maintaining the high quality and safety of cosmetic products in the South African industry. The industry is vibrant and dynamic, comprising of an interesting mix of multinational companies, local brand owners and SMMES along its complex value chain.
The Association’s activities include representing and promoting the interest of its member companies, an authoritative voice for the South African industry and active industry viewpoints to government departments. It continues to lead the industry forward with regard to settling and updating regulations and standards, and encourage responsible advertising.
CTFA advocates international harmonisation and recognition and has since 2000, been a member of Cosmetic Europe, the personal care Association.
Membership of CTFA is open to any company distributing or manufacturing cosmetics. Companies associated with the cosmetic industry, but not directly involved in distribution or manufacture such as packaging and raw material suppliers, may become associate members. Retailers may also be members of CTFA.
Membership is open to cosmetic manufacturers, distributors, related suppliers (as associate members), and retailers
